The ideal Medical Billing and Coding student will be trained in three core areas: soft skills, medical professional and medical coding and billing.

The successful graduate will gain knowledge in subjects pertaining microcomputer usage, general math, grammar and customer service skills which directly address the employers need for employees with the basic soft skills. The graduate will possess a sound knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology and other course work to support the medical professional core area of knowledge.

The first two core areas prepare the student for the in depth knowledge of the rules, regulations and procedures associated to medical billing and insurance coding. Topics associated to this area of study are ICD-9 / CPT coding, computerized medical patient billing using MediSoft and the manual processing of insurance forms.

The successful graduate from the Medical Billing and Insurance Coding program will be prepared for an entry level position as Medical Insurance Coder, Medical Biller or Medical Office Receptionist. Career opportunities can be found in Physician's Offices, Health Care Clinics, Nursing Homes, Insurance Companies and Hospitals.
