Mission Statement

The mission of Keystone Technical Institute is to provide useful education; one that matches the career goals of the student with the needs of the employers in the student's chosen field. To this end, the institute, through a competent and dedicated faculty and well planned and always developing curriculum, insures the student will receive the necessary foundation to achieve their potential in the career they are pursuing. The institute, with an ongoing curricular evaluation process and constant feedback from our graduates, Advisory Committee and employers, keeps abreast of the technologies necessary for entering the working world. The environment established to achieve this mission is one which encourages a "hands on" experience, for all students, thus providing a "workplace atmosphere."


Statement of Philosophy

Keystone Technical Institute was founded in 1980 with the primary purpose of providing the citizenry of Dauphin County with a quality post-secondary allied health and business training facility that offers the most up-to-date education programs qualifying students for challenging, well-paying careers in allied health, business, industry, and government.

Interested in the total development of the individual, KTI, in addition to teaching technical occupation specific skills, stresses the fostering of such inter-personal skills as proper business attitude, behavior, professional attire, and punctuality.

Keystone Technical Institute is committed to the advancement of career education and dedicated to individuals who desire to improve themselves and the opportunities for career success.

Teaching skills to the unskilled, refining the skills of the semi-skilled and assisting them in finding gainful employment in the business or industry they have trained for is the overall objective of Keystone Technical Institute.

Training programs are designed to provide the students with the skills that are saleable today and with knowledge that will allow them to grow and realize their maximum career potential in the future. An effective Career Placement Assistance service makes it possible for KTI to fulfill its objective to provide a needed and valuable service to business and industry, community, the nation and most important, the student.


Institution With a Purpose

Keystone Technical Institute is an institution with a purpose. It is neither subsidized nor endowed but is entirely dependent for its continuance and success upon the quality of its training as evidenced by the achievement of its graduates. It is coeducational and nonsectarian.


KTI History

KTI first opened in October 1980 and was granted institutional accreditation by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools and the National Association of Trade and Technical Schools in 1983. Renewal of accreditation was granted by the Accrediting Commission for Trade and Technical Schools of the Career College of Health Education Schools and Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (formerly the Accrediting Commission for Trade and Technical Schools of the Career College Association) was granted to 2001.

Evening classes were added in 1986 and the medical curriculum was expanded. In October 1989, there was a change of ownership, and KTI began to offer business, computer and legal programs. In January 1995, KTI added three new programs to its curriculum: Medical Assistant Specialist, Paralegal Specialist and Data Processing Technology Specialist. Each of these programs expands the previous courses of study and includes general education subjects. In August 1995, KTI was granted approval to offer the Associate in Specialized Business Degree for Paralegal Specialist and Data Processing Technology Specialist, and the Associate Specialized Technology degree for Medical Assistant Specialist. In May of 1996 because of the growing awareness of wellness and concern for health maintenance, KTI added a Professional Massage Therapist Program.

In February, 1997, KTI was granted approval to offer the Associate in Specialized Technology Degree for Dental Assistant Specialist and the Associate in Specialized Business Degree for Medical Office Management.

In August, 1997, in keeping with its commitment toward growth and building a bridge to the 21st Century KTI moved to a new eight acre campus.

In May of 1998, KTI was granted approval to offer the Associate in Specialized Business Degree for Child Care Specialist to help fill the demand for child care workers. In December of 2000, KTI expanded its wellness program with the Professional Massage Therapy Specialist, Associates in Specialized Business Degree Program, which was granted approval on June 20, 2001. In November of 2001, the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology granted renewal of accreditation through November 2006, without stipulation and presented KTI with a School of Distinction Award. In 2003, the Culinary Arts and Digital Arts Programs were added to meet the growing need in the region.

On June 2, 2006 KIS Career Schools, Inc. purchased all the assets of the Institution from Academy of Medical Art and Business, Inc. and continued to do business as Academy of Medical Art and Business until the official name change on January 15, 2007 to its current name of Keystone Technical Institute (KTI).
