About Keystone Technical Institute
KTI first opened in October 1980 and was granted institutional accreditation by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools and the National Association of Trade and Technical Schools in 1983. Renewal of accreditation was granted by the Accrediting Commission for Trade and Technical Schools of the Career College of Health Education Schools and Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (formerly the Accrediting Commission for Trade and Technical Schools of the Career College Association) was granted to 2001.
Evening classes were added in 1986 and the medical curriculum was expanded. In October 1989, there was a change of ownership, and KTI began to offer business, computer and legal programs. In January 1995, KTI added three new programs to its curriculum: Medical Assistant Specialist, Paralegal Specialist and Data Processing Technology Specialist. Each of these programs expands the previous courses of study and includes general education subjects. In August 1995, KTI was granted approval to offer the Occupational Associate in Specialized Business Degree for Paralegal Specialist and Data Processing Technology Specialist, and the Occupational Associate Specialized Technology degree for Medical Assistant Specialist. In May of 1996, because of the growing awareness of wellness and concern for health maintenance, KTI added a Professional Massage Therapist Program.
In February 1997, KTI was granted approval to offer the Occupational Associate in Specialized Technology Degree for Dental Assistant Specialist and the Occupational Associate in Specialized Business Degree for
Medical Office Management.
In August 1997, in keeping with its commitment toward growth and building a bridge to the 21st Century, KTI moved to a new eight-acre campus.
In May of 1998, KTI was granted approval to offer the Occupational Associate in Specialized Business Degree for Childcare Specialist to help fill the demand for childcare workers. In December of 2000, KTI expanded its wellness program with the Professional Massage Therapy Specialist. In November of 2001, the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology granted renewal of accreditation through November 2006, without stipulation and presented KTI with a School of Distinction Award. In 2003, the Culinary Arts and Digital Arts Programs were added to meet the growing need in the region.
On June 2, 2006 KIS Career Schools, Inc. purchased all the assets of the Institution from Academy of Medical Art and Business, Inc. and continued to do business as Academy of Medical Art and Business until the official name change on January 15, 2007 to its current name of Keystone Technical Institute (KTI).
In response to the needs and demands of the employers in the central PA region KTI added career training programs to prepare graduates for a career in architectural drafting, civil drafting, computer networking, computer software and hardware, medical billing and insurance coding, medical office, executive office assistant, personal fitness trainer and criminal justice.
